An Invitation to Coaches: Player Development Should Never Have an Offseason
At The Factory Sports Training of Georgia, we believe great coaches and great training programs share the same objective: helping young athletes become better baseball players and better prepared for their next opportunity.
That is why we want to extend an invitation to baseball coaches throughout our community—recreation coaches, middle school coaches, high school coaches, travel baseball coaches, and independent coaches—to come visit The Factory.
You do not have to coach a Factory team.
Your players do not have to leave their current teams.
We aren't looking to replace coaches or interfere with successful programs. We want to become a resource coaches can use to help develop their players.
Development Doesn't End When the Season Ends
Baseball has seasons. Player development shouldn't.
A young player who has a goal of making his middle school team, playing varsity baseball, competing at a higher travel level, or eventually playing college baseball cannot expect development to occur only during team practices and games.
Team practices serve an important purpose, but coaches also have an entire roster to manage. There simply isn't always enough time to give every player the individual attention, repetition, instruction, and evaluation they may need.
That is where additional year-round training can make a difference.
Players need opportunities to work on hitting, pitching, fielding, throwing, speed, strength, mechanics, and the mental side of baseball throughout the year.
Just as importantly, we believe that development should be measured.
Don't Just Train. Measure.
One of the philosophies we are building at The Factory is simple:
If we're going to tell a player he is developing, we should be able to show him.
That means establishing a baseline, identifying areas that need attention, creating a development plan, training, reassessing, and then measuring the results over time.
The Factory is investing in technology that allows us to move beyond opinions and provide coaches, players, and parents with objective information.
Our technology includes:
HitTrax — providing measurable hitting data and allowing players to train in a highly interactive environment.
Spinball iPitch Smart Pitching Machine — giving hitters the opportunity to train against different pitches, velocities, movement, spin rates, locations, and sequences.
Rapsodo 3.0 — providing advanced baseball data that can help evaluate and develop pitching and hitting performance.
VALD performance technology — helping us objectively measure areas of athletic performance, including speed and other physical performance metrics.
Technology, however, doesn't develop a baseball player by itself.
People do.
That is why our trainers are so important. The Factory's training staff includes individuals with college and professional playing experience who understand what it takes to compete beyond youth baseball.
We want to combine their experience with modern technology and objective assessment.
A Player Development Record That Grows With the Athlete
Imagine being able to evaluate a young player today and then continue documenting that player's development every few months.
How has his exit velocity changed?
Has his speed increased?
Is he handling higher pitching velocities?
How is he performing against different pitch types?
Where has he made progress?
Where does he still need additional work?
Instead of relying solely on someone's opinion that "he looks better," we can begin putting measurable information behind the player's development.
For a young athlete with aspirations of playing middle school, high school, showcase, or eventually college baseball, that history can become increasingly valuable.
It also gives us something very important to show the player:
Progress.
Young athletes don't always recognize how much they are developing. Seeing measurable improvement can build confidence while also teaching them that improvement comes from consistent work.
We Want to Work With Coaches, Not Compete With Them
This is particularly important for travel baseball organizations.
A travel coach does not have to be a Factory coach for his players to train at The Factory.
We respect the relationship between players and their coaches.
If you have a successful team or organization, we want you to continue doing what you do well. The Factory can simply become another resource available to your athletes.
The same applies to recreation, middle school and high school coaches.
You may have players who need additional hitting work.
You may have pitchers who need more specialized instruction.
You may have athletes preparing for tryouts.
You may have younger players who show potential but need additional development before they are ready for the next level.
Or you may simply have highly motivated players who want somewhere to continue working when your team isn't practicing.
Send them to us. Let's work together.
18,000 Square Feet Dedicated to Development
The Factory Sports Training of Georgia offers an approximately 18,000-square-foot indoor training facility, giving athletes the ability to continue working regardless of rain, cold, heat, darkness, or field availability.
For serious players, consistency matters.
Missing weeks of development because the weather isn't cooperating shouldn't have to be part of the equation.
Our goal is to create an environment where players can train throughout the year, receive quality instruction, use advanced technology, and regularly measure their development.
Coaches, Come See The Factory
We don't want to explain everything we are building from behind a computer screen.
We want coaches to come see it.
Walk through the facility.
Meet our trainers.
See the technology.
Ask questions.
Tell us about your program.
Tell us what challenges you face developing your players.
Most importantly, let's discuss ways The Factory Sports Training of Georgia can complement what you are already doing.
Whether you coach recreation baseball, middle school, JV, varsity, travel baseball, or another developmental program, our doors are open.
There should not be competition between organizations when it comes to helping young athletes develop.
The uniform may be different. The team name may be different. The goal is the same: help the player become the best baseball player he is capable of becoming.
For players who dream of someday putting on their school uniform or earning an opportunity to play college baseball, those dreams require more than a season.
They require instruction.
They require repetition.
They require accountability.
They require measurement.
And most of all, they require consistent work throughout the year.
